Free Banksy!

Early yesterday, fugitive graffiti artist, painter, film director, Oscar nominee, political activist who over the years has been known under the pseudonym Banksy was arrested by police and unmasked in his London art studio. He is being held without bail on charges of vandalism, money laundering, conspiracy, racketeering and counterfeiting which is believed to be politically motivated because of his contempt for the government as a critic.
Local residents and admirers of Banksy across the world call the arrest a waste of tax payers money and a plot against one who produces beautiful thought-provoking artwork.
In solidarity with the “Free Banksy” movement gaining strength across the world, I have decided to conceal the identity – as exposed by the London police – but instead prefer to leave you with one of his most memorable quotes:

“People are taking the piss out of you every day. They butt into your life, take a cheap shot at you and then disappear. They leer at you from tall buildings and make you feel small. They make flippant comments from buses that imply you’re not sexy enough and that all the fun is happening somewhere else. They are on TV making your girlfriend feel inadequate. They have access to the most sophisticated technology the world has ever seen and they bully you with it. They are the advertisers and they are laughing at you. You, however, are forbidden to touch them. Trademarks, intellectual property rights and copyright law mean advertisers can say what they like wherever they like with total impunity.
F*ck that. Any advert in a public space that gives you no choice whether you see it or not is yours. It’s yours to take, re-arrange and re-use. You can do whatever you like with it. Asking for permission is like asking to keep a rock someone just threw at your head. You owe the companies nothing. Less than nothing, you especially don’t owe them any courtesy. They owe you. They have re-arranged the world to put themselves in front of you. They never asked for your permission, don’t even start asking for theirs.”

“Gerda” (In memory of Carolyn Fizer 1924-2014)

Down the long curving walk you trudge to the street,
Stoop-shouldered in defeat, a cardboard suitcase
In each hand. Gerda, don’t leave! the child cries
From the porch, waving and weeping; her stony mother
Speaks again of the raise in salary
Denied. Gerda demands ten dollars more
Than the twenty-five a month she has been paid
To sew, cook, keep house, dress and undress the child,
Bathe the child with the rough scaly hands
she cleans in Clorox; sing to the child
In Swedish, teach her to pray, to count her toes
In Swedish. Forty years on, the child still knows how.

Tesla Motors’ New ‘D’ Cars Are All-Wheel-Drive, Not Self-Drive

Tesla Motors on Thursday night disappointed some auto-market watchers’ expectations that it would put out a self-driving car — but the electric car juggernaut did announce the release of a higher tech version of its Model S car, with all-wheel drive and rapid acceleration rivaling that of luxury vehicles, USA Today reports.

The tripped-out new Model S will have all-wheel drive, plus acceleration of 0-60 mph in just 3.2 seconds, says the newspaper. It can also reach a top speed of 155 mph, up from the Model S’s peak velocity of 130 mph.

“This car is nuts. It’s like taking off from a carrier deck,” Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, told press assembled at Los Angeles’ Hawthorne airport, where his commercial space travel company SpaceX is also based.

The “D” cars will also come with a package of new safety features, including the ability to read speed-limit signs and shift…

Advantages of being a vegan

A vegan lifestyle strictly requires that you eliminate all red meat and dairy products from your diet. I know, right? That’s a lot to give up. No more chicken on Sunday afternoons and holiday nights with family, no more meat to chug down with some wine when chilling out with friends, no more milk perhaps, no more eggs as well. But there are advantages of a vegan lifestyle. What should one consider before embarking on a vegan lifestyle? Well, I’ll tell you about Timothy. At nineteen, Timothy was fat and anxious to lose most of his 120 lbs weight. So when he discovered that Prince, his favorite celebrity is a vegan, he did some research and got down to months of work, exercise, and lifestyle changes. A year later, Timothy is dreaming about participating in the Ironman triathlon and ultra marathon.

One of the advantages of being a vegan is that the lifestyle eliminates most of the unhealthy foods that tend to cause weight issues. Timothy lost about 35 lbs by eating more of carrots and vegetables while abstaining from meat and fatty foods. His body mass index (BMI) dropped significantly, and his energy levels surged even higher. Now Timothy weighs a healthy 25 BMI.

Allergy and Migraine loss
Another advantage of being a vegan suggests that there is a strong relief from migraines and an alleviation of allergy symptoms as a result. Timothy had always been a sufferer of both and in the past frequently had running noses. Now, he’s very comfortable with smelling the roses.

Body odor and bad breath
Timothy was also an easy target among peers for his bad breath and body odor. People avoided him a lot; his friends began to give him a safe distance. An advantage of being a vegan is that the diet high in grains, nuts and greens is full of vitamin E that refreshes a lot to the body and prevents bad smells. It’s safe to say Timothy hardly has morning breath these days to start with.

Resistance to illness
These plant-based foods provide substances called photochemicals which help to prevent and heal the body from cancer, and boosts protective enzymes. These in turn protect the body from diseases and infections, making the individual fully immune and healthy. And Timothy enjoys this advantage of being a vegan. He doesn’t fall ill anymore even if members of his family still suffer from their genetic two-day bout of malaria.

Attractive and younger skin
Another advantage of being a vegan is that the vitamins and minerals derived from a healthy plant-based diet regenerates the red and white blood cells, aids metabolism and does wonders to the skin. A vegan lifestyle boosts skin health thereby reducing blemishes and healing bruises and cuts faster. Timothy’s now an attractive young lad and looks like he’s five years younger than his age.

Better Environment and resources
A vegan lifestyle enforces growing of more plants than growing animals, and this refocus which needs fewer resources brings up another advantage of being a vegan. A vegan’s lifestyle leads to a much safer environment that eliminates pollution when laden with plants, plants and more plants thereby reducing the damage caused by an alter-lifestyle of meat and dairy foods and animal maintenance which requires even more resources to grow.

Stronger Bones
Calcium is a very important element necessary for building stronger bones. When this element is lacking in the bloodstream, the body leaches off calcium from the existing bones, making one lose strength easily look skinny and frail. Another advantage of being a vegan is that the diet gives a healthy dose of calcium, magnesium and vitamin D necessary for building stronger bones.

Money saving
Living a vegan lifestyle suggests less spending as a result, and this is another great advantage of being a vegan. Most food sold in stores and markets are non-vegan foods that cost a large percentage of our individual food budget. But eating and living a vegan lifestyle cuts our food spending significantly and saves us a lot of money that can be spent on other needs. Eating vegetables, fruits and grains instead of animal flesh and chicken helps a lot in lowering our food spending.
